Sharon Kinch, 17, knows how to satisfy a sweet tooth. The Estes Park High School junior has started her own business called Pâtisserie Vonlu. As part of a work study program at school, she has the opportunity to work at a job and earn high school credits.

Kinch’s bonbon creations are white chocolate filled ganache, caramel or a fruit purée.

“No one needed me,” Kinch said, “so I started my own business.”

The young entrepreneur has always been interested in running her own business. Growing up in Longmont, she ran a dog walking service. As a sophomore at EPHS, she sold snacks and drinks.

Now, however, the Allenspark resident is pursuing one of her passions: baking.

“I’ve always enjoyed baking and being in the kitchen,” Kinch remarked. “I recently got into a Prostart culinary class through Metropolitan State University of Denver.”

She and a handful of other students at her school are taking the course.

About a month ago, Kinch launched Pâtisserie Vonlu starting small and hoping to build her clientele.

“At first, I started at school be talking to students and teachers,” she noted. “Then I went to Buy, Sell, Trade on Facebook. I don’t have a storefront.”

Her bonbon creations are white chocolate filled ganache, caramel or a fruit purée.  She decorates them with crunchy, colorful sprinkles as a birthday treat.

“I charge $15 for a box of eight,” Kinch explained. “I will deliver in the Estes area. I will ship other places for a small fee. Customers can order the bonbons on the Facebook page, Pâtisserie Vonlu, or order online at https://forms.gle/HnprpDfnzxkQbj929.”

Kinch has her sights set on business school.

“I’ve always enjoyed being my own boss,” she commented, “making my own hours. If you work for a company, you can’t change the ethics because it’s not your business. Also, I enjoy the challenge of doing business on my own.”
